WebQuest

I have finished doing my WebQuest. I ended up doing the journal of a child of the gold rush. Funny, the hardest part for me was adding the graphics. I had a horrible time finding graphics that worked and after having my other laptop go down due to a virus, all I could think of is "please let this image be clean". I am pretty please with the overall results of my quest but am waiting to publish until I hear reviews. I think that this was a great experience, although time consuming.

Webquest topic ideas

I have two ideas for a webquest. I want to do fourth grade and cover the gold rush. The first idea I had was to have the students take on the role of a child of a family heading out to California to seek their fortune. I would ask the students to create five journal entries as if they were this child. In each journal log they would reference a major happening about the gold rush. The second idea was to have the students create a newspaper and depict articles about major events that they would likely see during the gold rush. Each of these ideas would address
Standard 4.3 Students explain the economic, social, and political life in California from the establishment of the Bear Flag Republic through the Mexican-American War, the Gold Rush, and the granting of statehood.
Standard 4.4 Students explain how California became an agricultural and industrial power, tracing the transformation of the California economy and its political and cultural development since the 1850s.
The final product (the newspaper or the journal entries) would reflect the student’s learning and master of the subject.
